Location
Hotels of this group are in the heart of Limassol’s tourist area and being on the quiet and comfortable outskirts means you can quickly reach the centre and old town where the main attractions are. The cost of travelling by bus is €1.5 and taxi is about €10 one way.
The best restaurants and cafes are close to the hotel, plus a variety of souvenir shops and kiosks (periptera) with various essential goods, alcoholic drinks, cigarettes, etc. The cost of lunch or dinner in the restaurant next to the hotel is around €40 – €50 per person (including wine or other alcoholic beverages). The most popular taverns among tourists and locals are the Kissos and Nama, located directly opposite the Four Seasons and Mediterranean Beach Hotel.
The hotels’ beaches
Four Seasons 5*, Mediterranean Beach 4* and 5* Amathus are connected by a long sandy beach, considered to be one of the best in Limassol. The beach is approximately 2 km long and 5-10m wide. All the hotels are next to the sea and have their own equipped beach. Umbrellas, deck chairs and beach towels are provided free of charge to the hotel’s residents, while non-residents will have to pay €30 per day for the use of the sunbeds, swimming pools and other recreational facilities.
The hotels’ beaches are sandy, although there may be some small stones in places near the water. Water sports entertainment (extra charge) is available all along the beach, and several taverns operate in summer directly on the sand.
The gentle sloping beach is suitable for families with children; the beaches are clean, and the hotel staff ensure all the equipment is in perfect condition. This beach has been assigned the “Blue Flag” for its comfort and safety.
Features of Four Seasons Hotel 5*
The Four Seasons Hotel is one of the best in Limassol. The restaurant is popular not only among visitors to the island but also locals. Especially popular is the Chinese Seasons Oriental restaurant ( the average bill is about €100 for two) and Colors Cafe, which regularly organises “Delicious Week” where guests are treated to complimentary gourmet desserts of ice cream, chocolate, etc.
In addition to the restaurants, the hotel has a unique spa, Shiseido, offering guests unforgettable facial and body treatments.
The hotel is ideal for a respectable holiday, families with children and couples. There is a separate “adult” area of the hotel for those who prefer peace and quiet, which offers a private area with swimming pool. For children the hotel organises a special entertainment programme and kids club, providing a variety of daily activities. Children will certainly not find themselves alone and bored, as so many families stay at the hotel during the summer.
Another advantage of the hotel is a large number of Russian speaking staff, the presence of free (relatively fast) Wi-Fi, a small but beautiful green area and well-equipped swimming pools (some are “children only” or “adults only”).
Despite the fact that the hotel is suitable for all categories of travellers, it’s probably not going to suit those who wish to keep to themselves, as during the summer season the hotel is practically “invaded” by tourists from Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union. It is also very popular with the local Russian-speaking population and is not a very convenient hotel for young adults as all bars and clubs here are located closer to the city centre.
Mediterranean Beach Hotel 4* features
This hotel is midway between the Four Seasons and Amathus Hotels. Despite the lower rating, the Mediterranean Beach is no less popular among tourists. Going by the ratio of price / quality, this hotel offers the best option (the price is lower on average by 30% in comparison with the other two). At the same time, the level of security, quality of service and comfort are top quality.
We highly recommend this hotel for families with children. A varied buffet menu is available, but you can book bed and breakfast which, in our opinion, is more appropriate as nearby there are numerous cafes. You can easily feed the children at the restaurants around the hotel; there is traditional Russian soup (borsch), chicken soup, okroshka (about €5 – €7 for a large portion) and Russian salad or vinaigrette, that costs about €4 – €6 per serving.
Also, the hotel offers a varied entertainment programme for children, and the number of tourists ensures your child will not be on his/her own. Like the Four Seasons Hotel 5*, Mediterranean Beach has a diving club, which accepts adults and children from 10 years of age. The cost of diving is about €40 – €60 per session, depending on the type of programme.
This rather small hotel is ideal for youngsters and young couples without children as there is not a great variety of adult entertainment at the hotel and the city centre with its nightlife is about 10 km away.
Features of the Amathus 5* Hotel
This hotel is ideal for relaxation. The whole place has a calmness; there is an abundance of greenery and the interior is cool. The famous olive tree associated with the hotel, centuries old, grows nearby.
You should enjoy the restaurants and delicious cocktails on the terrace with its stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. We especially want you to note the Limanaki Tavern which opened in summer. The restaurant is on the beach and has a magnificent sea view. The tavern deserved its award in Time Out magazine, nominated “The gourmet’s best fish restaurant.”
There are also excellent and attractive hotel spa facilities; qualified staff use some of the world’s best cosmetic brands – Pevonia Botanica and Carita.
Despite the many advantages of the hotel, we do not recommend it to families with children and young people, as the entertainment programme is virtually non-existent and the children will get bored. But it is ideally suited for those who prefer a quiet holiday away from the vibrant nightlife.
Conclusion
The obvious advantages of the Four Seasons Hotel 5*, Amathus 5* and 4* Mediterranean include the provision of their own sandy beaches, beautiful rooms and landscaped grounds. The hotels offer a varied buffet and a la carte menu (the hotels’ restaurants are among the best in Limassol). It boasts indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, Russian TV and free internet access. There are various kinds of water activities and an entertainment programme for children (Four Seasons and Mediterranean Beach).
The disadvantage is the lack of rooms in peak season. For this reason, you should take care and book in advance. There are no cash machines on the hotel grounds (in general, this applies to almost all hotels in Cyprus).
