For the first time ever, an officer of the UN troops has acquired the citizenship of Cyprus after 15 years of service. However, in accordance with the UN rules, active officers are not allowed to acquire citizenship of the country where they are located.
According to the UN representative, the legal basis of that action will be checked by the competent organs, regardless of the fact that the Minister of Interior of Cyprus has already confirmed the validity of the citizenship.
