At the meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Beijing, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan ignored the discussion on safety issue. Nevertheless, there has been some progress in the discussion of the ‘Cyprus problem’.
According to the Phileleftheros newspaper, Turkey is ready to discuss a question of guarantees and safety, only if Nicosia will be ready to discuss granting of certain freedoms and rights to Turkish Cypriots set by the EU.
Opinion of Greek Cypriots on this suggestion is still to be received.
As previously agreed, President Anastassiades will meet with the leader of the Turkish-Cypriots Akinci on 17th May. If the negotiations will be successful, it will give a green light to holding the second conference on Cyprus in Geneva.
