The UN Special Advisor Espen Barth Eide said that “positive advancements” in the negotiations must be done until the beginning of the summer. He also added that this time, a failure may be critical.
The UN representative has set the deadline for June by taking into account the upcoming elections in the Republic of Cyprus and drilling in the EEZ of Cyprus.
Mr. Eide also expressed his neutrality concerning the “freezing” of the negotiations process and added that “until now both sides have reached a significant progress”. He believes that the upcoming negotiations depend solely on the leaders of the two communities of Cyprus.
