The British Ministry of Defence announced that reconstruction and modernisation of the runway in Akrotiri has been finlaised. The project, which lasted for 21 months with budget of 41 million GBP, is set to serve the RAF for the next 20 years.
The Minister of Defence Michael Penning stated that the “old runaway was transformed into modern and safe military base of the 21st century”.
Once the construction of the high-tech digital info centre in Cyprus will be finished in 2019, the British base in Cyprus will be the largest British base abroad.
