Regardless of the fact that Cyprus and several other countries are against the prolongation of sanctions, the EU has extended them for another 6 months.
According to the Russian media, this is caused by the Russia’s actions in relation to Ukraine and the current progress on the Minsk II.
This decision, however, is yet to be confirmed by the European Council.
The sanctions were introduced by the EU and USA against various sectors of the Russian economy. In return, Moscow has restricted the importation of the food stuffs from the countries who supported the sanctions.
