Head of Cyprus traffic police Philippos Papaelias said that patrolling of island’s roads will be intensified throughout the week up until 18th June.
This is already the fourth campaign this year against speeding. This time, a special attention will be paid to highway stretches with 3 lanes and “hot spots”, which are popular among speeding drivers.
Also, Papaelias noted that unofficially police allows drivers to exceed the speed up to 20 km above the speed limit. Thus, the purpose of the campaign is not to punish drivers, but to reduce the number of fatal road accidents in Cyprus.
