The elections at the town, local and municipal levels took place in Cyprus during the weekend. According to the results, the new Mayor of Limassol was elected. With a difference of just 9 votes Andreas Christou is replaced by Nicos Nicolaides.
In Larnaca the locals supported Andreas Viras, whereas in Nicosia, Ayia-Napa and Paphos mayors remained the same.
However, the population did not show much interest in the elections. In total, just 60% of the population casted their vote.
Political expert Christofor Christoforou believes that this is expected because people lost faith in the politicians. On the other hand, the national elections, which defines the future of the country is quite popular.
