Overall 250 new vacancies were opened: 210 in the Cyprus police and 40 in the fire service. The delay in getting the new recruits was caused by the misunderstanding between the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Finance after the new criteria were approved.
The changes concerned the necessity to pass the psychological test and age requirements- the upper boundary is now 35 years. The oral examinations were abolished, however the height requirements remained the same – at least 160cm for women and 165 for men.
The Minister of Justice Ionas Nicolaou said that this is how the government tries to set the “objective and clear criteria for the new recruits”.
