The spokesman of Cyprus police Mr. Yiannakis Charalambous said that in accordance with the new legislation, which is scheduled to enter into force soon, the fines for illegal parking will increase from 85 EUR to 200 EUR and possibly even to 300 EUR.
The reason for such drastic increase of the fines is frequent parking at prohibited places and illegal parking on the spaces specifically dedicated fro disabled people.
In comparison with the data from 2015, the overall number of fine last year has increase by 3 times and reached the level of 9,000 fines. Most violations were made in Limassol, Paphos and Larnaca, whereas in Nicosia the overall number of violations has slightly decreased.
