Minister of Labour Zeta Emilianidou has challenged the claims brought up by the representatives of the small business. The issue in question is the working schedule of the shops, which are open on Sundays.
In her interview to Cypriot media, she stated that the Ministry of Labour is conducting all the necessary checks of the proper remuneration, overtime pay and so on.
“We are making sure that the employers are not abusing the workforce in order to achieve own goals”.
Concerning the issue about the opening times of the shops, the Minister replied that with such a high unemployment rate, the main goal is to create more work places. The problems of the small businesses will not be solved by restricting the opening hours.
