The European government supported the project of creating a new Mediterranean pipeline with length of 2,000 km. It is planned that it will connect the gas fields near Cyprus and Israel to terminals in Greece and, possibly, in Italy. In 6 months the Ministers of Energy of the above countries plan to meet in Cyprus for further promotion of the project.
The cost of construction is expected to be 6 billion Euros. The completion is planned for 2025.
The EU Energy and Climate Commissioner Miguel Aris Kaniete supported the idea and added that: “This ambitious project will be very valuable in terms of security of the supply”.
