Cyprus is less attractive to refugees than other European countries in the Mediterranean. According to the report of International Organization for Migration Cyprus has accepted 273 migrants and refugees from January to April this year. At the same time, 70 thousand people arrived in the Mediterranean region.
Last year the situation was similar – then Cyprus accepted only 345 refugees. Low interest can be explained with the fact that Cyprus geographically is not connected with the continental part of Europe and is not part of the Schengen zone.
The largest influx of refugees and migrants, according to the report, is seen in Italy – almost 85%, followed by Greece, Cyprus and Spain.
