The officer in charge of the children’s right Mrs. Leda Koursoumba has requested the Parliament to vote for the total smoking ban at the children’s playgrounds and nearby territories.
It was discovered, that the provision for the prohibition of smoking in open air places such as playgrounds, which are often visited by minor children, was taken out of the legislation. Rumors are that this was done due to the pressure from hoteliers and tour operators.
The Prohibition of smoking in the public places was implemented in 2010. Quite recently, the ban was extended on all smoking items, including electronic cigarettes.
