The Department of the Civil Aviation urged all resident to refrain from launching the kites on 27th of February near the Paphos and Larnaca Airports.
According to the authorities, the kites launched near the runways may distract pilots and jeopardize flight safety.
On the 27th of February, Cyprus celebrates “Green Monday”- which marks the beginning of lent. Traditionally, Cypriots are ogranising picnics and launching of the kites on that day. This activities symbolize letting go off all the sins to the sky.
