The State officials in Cyprus has estimated that the damage caused by the forest fires in 2016 is approximately 112,000,000 Euros. And apparently just the forest fires in June in Solea and Troodos caused 100 million Euros worth of damage, which is 0,6% of the Country’s GDP.
The most frequent cause of fire was the incineration of the leftovers of the agricultural produce, short circuits, arson and burning cigarettes.
According to the Department of forestry, the forest fires in June in Troodos destroyed approximately 18,5 sq.km of forests.
