The firefighting service has reported that since 1st of April there were 22 fires. This is due to the tradition of the Greek Orthodox church – to make bonfires.
The fires still happen regardless of the fact that last month all safety procedures have been finalized with the police, local municipalities, church and firefighting services. Special places were allocated were the starting of bonfires is permitted
Easter or “Lambradjia” is the symbolical burning of Judas on the Easter Saturday night. The wood is collected on the empty space near the church and is set on fire few hours before the midnight.
