A special UN adviser for Cyprus got delayed at the press conference and missed the boarding. A military helicopter with the president Anastasiades on board returned for Eide 10 minutes later and they headed to a conference on Cyprus in Crans-Montana.
Negotiations started with the discussion of security and guarantees. However, the parties still decided to stick to the previously stated positions. The summit is also being attended by the foreign ministers of the guarantor countries – Turkey and Greece. Surprisingly, the head of the British foreign office, Boris Johnson, chose to leave the meeting.
Insiders report that on Friday the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres may join the talks.
