Overall, there are 90,000 patients with diabetes registered in Cyprus – this is approximately just over 9% of the population. In comparison, the average results across the EU do not exceed 7,5%.
Diabetes is the third most frequent cause of death in Cyprus, coming after circulatory system problems and cancer. Recently, the doctors have revealed an outbreak of Type 2 diabetes.
The Minister of Health stated that Cyprus, just as other Members of the EU, will implement measures to combat this disease. The start is planned for the beginning of the next year.
One of the best precautionary measures against diabetes is healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition and regular physical activities.
