According to the report of the Head of the Fire Service of Cyprus, this year firemen saved 1284 individuals. From the beginning of the year until end of August there were more than 7,000 distress calls. Approximately 4,500 of those were connected with actual fires. The material damage caused by fire has been estimated at 6,2 million Euros.
After the 5-day fire in June in Solea region, the number of fires has declined. Most probably, after such a serious tragedy which has taken lives of 2 fire fighters, people have realised the dangers and became more responsible in their actions.
