These are Risso’s, Striped, Rough-toothed and Bottlenose dolphins, as well as a sperm whale. The presence of these 5 marine mammals was confirmed during a special study, where visual and acoustic examination methods were used.
Monitoring of coastal waters using acoustic and visual equipment started last year and was carried out in 3 stages. The final analysis of the collected data will be completed and published by August this year.
The project, funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), gathered experts of Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, as well as specialists from Greece and the United Kingdom.
