Cyprus is against the speeding-up of the ascension process of Turkey to the EU.
Nicos Anastasiades, after his meeting with the European Council President Donald Tusk, has stated that Cyprus will not consent to the opening of the new chapters in the ascension process, if Turkey will not comply with the requirements set in the Ankara protocol.
The President stated that among those requirements is the recognition of Cyprus.
Furthermore, Mr. Anastasiades stated that Turkey must also fulfil its obligation in relation to the Migrant crisis, because the migrants are travelling through Turkey.
Earlier, Turkey declared that it will participate in the resolution of the migrant crisis if the ascension process will be accelerated.
