The bilateral Treaty between Russia and Cyprus has been amended and now it grants the right to “the parties to assign multiple carriers for all the agreed routes between Russia and Cyprus”.
Previously, the number of carriers had to be assigned equally by each contracting party, however now, if this condition cannot be met, one of the parties can increase the passenger capacity of the flights, their frequency or the number of airline carriers.
This agreement plays an important role, since the Cypriot national carrier “Cyprus Airways” has seized operation since January 2015 due to the liquidation and bankruptcy of the company.
