Earlier Department of Fisheries and Marine Research closed the sea corridor for boats, located between the two protected areas of the embankment of Olympia. Now access to the sea will be provided only to the port vessels, as well as tourist diving boats. Fishermen are offered a new place for fishing in the protected marine area of Amathunta.
However, the Association of Professional Fishermen did not agree with this solution. Experts said that “they will have to take drastic measures and block the entrance to the port with their boats.”
Meanwhile, amateur fishermen also do not agree with the new regulations and might join the initiative to block Limassol port entrance.
