Today the celebratory events dedicated to the International Cosmonautics Day will start in Cyprus. The events will take place on 11th and 12th of April in the Russian Science and Culture Centre in Nicosia.
As part of the of the celebrations, the visitors will have an opportunity to chat with the well-known Russian astronaut Alexander Volkov and explore the sky through telescope. Furthermore, the current crew of the International Space Station will greet the public.
The programme also features laying of flowers at the Gagarin’s monument, meeting with popular opera artists, opening of the themed exhibition and presentation of the engineering club (based in the Russian Science & Culture center).
On the 12th of April, the world celebrated the International Aviation and Cosmonautics Day. This day, in 1961 Yury Gagarin, for the first time in human history, orbited the Earth in the “Vostok-1” spaceship. This first flight in space lasted 108 minutes and opened new era in the history of space exploration.
