The fire broke out on Wednesday around 14:00 near the village of Agios Georgios. To prevent the fire of spreading to residential areas, the fire service had to engage a large number of staff and forestry workers.
According to the press-secretary of the fire department, Andreas Kattis, the fire was extinguished with the help of 6 helicopters and on-land firefighting units.
