For now Armenians, along with the Maronites and Catholics, refer to different religious groups, which are being a part of the Greek Cypriot community. At the same time, they have one elected representative in the parliament who does not have voting rights.
Creation of the official community will allow Armenians to attend parliamentary sessions, as well as vote and submit legislation projects. This was stated by the representative of the Armenian religious group Vartkes Mahdessian.
However, according to Mahdessian it is not possible to resolve the situation right now, because of the “Cyprus problem”. After the issue is settled, Armenian community will initiate further discussions.
