Police recorded 240 traffic offences during the regular checks of motorists, which took place in the capital of Nicosia in the beginning of the week.
According to the police reports, the majority of violations were related to exceeding the speed limit. Some drivers failed to observe the traffic signs and traffic light signals. During the check, an elderly man was detained for driving with the expired driving license, and the other driver – for driving, despite his license being taken away.
Earlier, the Ministry of Justice and Transport came up with a new system of penalties in Cyprus. If the Parliament approves the new project, the penalties can increase up to 500%.
