Third-country nationals, who have lived legally in Cyprus for 5 years, are eligible to submit an application for a long-term residence permit.
The exceptions are:
- students or persons residing in Cyprus for the purpose of learning;
- persons recognized as refugees;
- persons who have lived in Cyprus on the basis of additional protection;
- asylum-seekers;
- persons residing in Cyprus on a temporary basis, or a person with the formally limited residence permit;
- persons with the governed legal status by the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and 1963, the Convention on Special Missions1969 or the Vienna Convention on the Representation of States in their Relations with International Universal Nature Organisations of 1975.
Application Procedure
- The application must be submitted on the MLT1 form, in person, in Nicosia. Firstly, you must make an appointment for the submission of the application;
- The applicant may come to the Migration Department, accompanied by a lawyer or employer;
- In the absence of any required document from the list, the application will not be considered;
- The Department must be informed of any change in circumstances in the applicant’s life at the time of document’s consideration;
- Ddocuments consideration takes 6 months (applicants are advised not to call the Department to obtain information about the state of affairs prior to the expiration of this period);
- Following the approval, the applicant will receive a letter with a proposal to visit the main office and affix a stamp for a residence permit in the passport.
Required documents
The applicant must submit the following documents:
2. A valid residence permit in the Republic of Cyprus, with the address of residence in the territory of the Republic
3. The work contract (with the stamp), duly registered, not having the time or having a deadline of at least 18 months, with an indication of the salary. In the case of self-employment, a written statement must be provided describing the work and the declaration of the projected income from the discharge of the social insurance department
4. Diplomas and certificates of primary and secondary education, confirmation of previous work experience and skills.
5. Declaration of income for the last 5 years.
6. Declaration of the insurance payment for the last 5 years, if these contributions were paid, or confirmation that the fees were not charged.
7. VAT returns for the last 5 years if the tax is charged (for business owners or self-employed workers).
8. Bank statement.
9. Declaration of income in addition to wages.
10. Certificate of Title (if you haven’t received it yet, you must provide a certificate from the regional department of the property purchase and payment confirmation) or a lease in the name of the applicant, certified by the notaries and cheques to pay rent, telephone, electricity and water for the last 6 months.
11. Health insurance.
12. Certificate of non-criminal record.
13. Certificate of Greek language knowledge (A2 level) for foreigners (if necessary).
Long-term residence permit prolongation
The application for a long-term residence permit prolongation is applied for 3 months prior to the date of the previous one. The state fee – is €200.
Required documents:
1. The completed MLT form.
2. A passport, valid for at least 2 years after the application submission, with a certified copy, including all marked pages
3. The previous long-term residence permit.
4. Certificate of no-criminal record..
5. Extract from the insurance company for health insurance for the last 5 years.
6. Tax information over the last 5 years.
7. Statement from bank accounts for the last 5 years.
