Limassol Carnival 2017

From Monday 16^th of February until Sunday 26^th of February

Carnival in Limassol – is the Cyprus national festival, which is celebrated in Limassol and throughout Cyprus for the last 100 years.

Carnival takes place before the arrival of spring, regardless of economical or political situation, and gives people an opportunity to express their belief in the future and hope that new year will bring luck and happiness.

Every year the Municipality of Limassol organizes numerous events in public places. Entrance and participation in the events is free.

This year, the festive event of the Carnival “Limassol, the diamond of the Mediterranean” will begin with the arrival of the Queen of the Carnival on Thursday 16^th of Febuary and will finish with grand Parade on Sunday 26^th of February.

Events’ program

Tuesday 14^th of February

• 19:00 – Music programe at Limassol Marina Square;
• 19:30 – Opening of the Photo-Contest Exhibition “Limassol Carnival 2016″.

Wednesday 15^th of February

• 18:00 – Exhibition “Carnival 2017” (Limassol town hall). Performance by the Kato Polemidi communicty choir.
• 19:00 – Opening of the Crinval masks exhibition.

Thursday 16^th of February

• 11:00 – Carnival festivities near the Cooperative Savings Bank and Hellenic bank on Gladstonos street and Bank of Cyprus on Ayiou Andreou street;
• 12:30 – Performance by Limassol Serenaders at Saripolou square;
• 17:30 – Marching of the mayor and members of the community council, accompanied by the orchestra up to Grigoris Afxentiou square;
• 17:30 –  Musical event and performance featuring Mario Papadopoulos and Lime & Sol and Batukinio bands (Grigoris Afxentiou square)
• 19:00 – Arrival of the Queen of the Carnival. Parade will start on the Grigori Afxentiou square (near post office) and will proceed through the  Anexartisias, Ayiou Andreou, Karaiskaki, Stasinou, Andrea Drousioti streets up to Heroes’ Square.

Friday 17^th of February

• 20:00 – Concert of children’s choirs in Limassol.

Saturday 18^th of February

• 10:30 – Journey on the children’s train around Limassol (assembly near the Cooperative Savings Bank on the Gladstonos Avenue);
• 11:00 – 14:00 – Carnival treasure Hunt (organised by the municipality in cooperation with Choice FM);

Sunday 19^th of February

• 11:30 – Children’s Carnival parade (will start opposite Citizen Service Centre until the Southern entrance to the Municipal Park).
• 18:00 – Musical evening, dedicated to George Giorgalletos (opposite of the Perama Music Stage).

Monday 20^th of February

• 19:30 – Carnival songs and serenades in the Ayia Fyla;

Tuesday 21^st of February

• 19:30 – Carnival songs and serenades in Ayios Nicolaos;
• 19:30 – Carnival songs and serenades in Zakaki;
• 19:30 – Carnival songs and serenades in the Apostolos Andreas and Ayios Ioannis;
• 20:00 – Crazy Costume Parade in Limassol;
• 20:30 – Party next to the Medieval Castle.

Wednesday 22^nd of February

• 19:30 – Men’s choir concert in Trakasol;
• 20:30 – Big Street Party – party at the university square, organised by the Limassol Municipality with Klik FM and Choice FM.

Thursday 23^rd of February

• 19:30 – Evening carnival-parade. Begins at the Grigori Afxentiou square and finishes on the Medieval Castle Square;
• 20:30 – Carnival fiesta next to the Medieval castle featuring music, dances  and best cotume contest.

Friday 24^th of February

• 19:00 – Evening of the Carnival Songs and Serenades in Limassol.

Saturday 25^th of February

• 10:30 – Journey on the children’s train around Limassol (assembly next to the Cooperative Savings Bank on Gladstonos Avenue);
• 15:00 – Members of the Limassol Club of Classic cars will drive around Limassol. Event starts at Enaerios parking and finishes at the Grigori Afxentiou square;
• 18:30 – Parade of the singers of carnival songs and serenades. Start next to the town hall and ends at the Grigori Afxentiou square.

Sunday 26^th of February

• 13:00 – Limassol Grand Parade
• 21:00 – Farewell with carnival fiesta on the Old port square.
