The staggering Electra by Sophocles, the tragedy of the release of man against fate, produced by Satiriko Theatre, will open this year’s “International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama” in Nicosia.
Performances will be also offered in Limassol and Paphos.
Electra is the tragedy that represents the last and the most mature creative period of Sophocles, tells the story of a murder in the palace of Atreides and reaches its peak with the matricide of Orestes. It’s about the tragedy of the release of man against fate.
Electra – a lonely and strong personality – inspires her brother for revenge, but remains alone. The play reveals all the strength of the main character’s emotions – the desperation for revenge and pain caused by her father’s murderer, and the tragic situation she fids herself in.
Performances in foreign languages will be offered with English and Greek subtitles.
All performances in Greek language will feature English subtitles.
