The Rialto theatre in Limassol will host the screening of the opera “Der Rosenkavalier” from the Metropolitan Opera in New-York.
Robert Karsen, who directed the recent New-York opera “Falstaff”, transfers the plot in the time of Gabsburg’s Empire demise, which is closer to the time when the opera was written, thus revealing the additional meanings of the masterpiece, which becomes some kind of a parody.
The fun comedy starts in the Duchess’ bedroom, who is the wife of a marshal, to whom the 17-year old Octavian is confessing in love. The confession is interrupted by the intrusion of her cousin, love-hungry baron Oks. He marries the rich heir Sofi and according to the tradition, he is looking for a cavalier, who will give her a rose. The Duchess suggests to use Octvian for this purpose. The following events are a chain of misunderstandings and additional love confessions.
